The John Volken Foundation provides people in need with the opportunity to help
themselves become successful, contributing members of society.
The John Volken Academy Program, established by the John Volken Foundation, is modeled after the therapeutic community approach to addiction treatment. Providing students with healthy lifestyle changes is essential to living successful and sober lives—forever!
Riley, when he first entered the John Volken Academy
Riley, after 7 months in the John Volken Academy
Like so many young people in our society today, Riley started abusing drugs and alcohol as a teenager. His substance use quickly spiraled into an addiction that consumed every good thing in his life, continuing on through adulthood. Riley felt he only had two choices: continue his miserable existence of using, or take his own life to spare himself and his loved ones the pain and anguish of his uncontrollable addiction.
Addiction is America’s most neglected disease!
Riley is not alone on this self-destructive path. Addiction is America’s most neglected disease. According to a Columbia University study, “40 million Americans age 12 and over meet the clinical criteria for addiction involving nicotine, alcohol or other drugs.” That’s more Americans than those with heart disease, diabetes or cancer.
The costs to government coffers alone (not including family, out of pocket and private insurance costs) exceed $468 billion annually. —A Blind Eye to Addiction By Lloyd Sederer, U.S. News Online, June 1, 2015.
After a recommendation from a family member, Riley found enough courage to choose a third option, to not give up on himself or his life and enroll in the John Volken Academy at Welcome Home Ranch. He voluntarily committed to our minimum 2-year program to change his life. More than just a rehabilitation center, the John Volken Academy teaches the life skills needed to achieve life-long sobriety.
Nestled under a view of San Tan Mountain in Gilbert, Arizona, the 40-acre ranch provides the perfect environment for our students to not only learn a strong work ethic and healthy living habits, but to further their education and rediscover the best version of themselves.
“No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another”
– Charles Dickens
The John Volken Academy exists because of the vision and generosity of John Volken. In his efforts to make addiction recovery affordable to suffering individuals, in all walks of life, his foundation subsidizes the majority of the student’s expense in the program. The student is only required to pay an intake fee of approximately $5,000 and commit to remaining in the minimum 2-year program to change their life.
In order to continue offering this life-changing program to suffering addicts, we need your help! Your tax-deductible donation will help offset facility construction, student living expenses, education costs and our Aftercare Program. There are a wide variety of ways you can donate and get involved. We also invite you to come and tour Welcome Home Ranch and meet our inspiring students.
